Fernando Armenghol.
Oaxaca ,Oax. México. 1985
Independent Photographer
Fernando is a photographer and visual artist from Oaxaca, Mexico. His relationship with the image began at a young age, driven by a deep and spontaneous curiosity. For more than two decades, photography has been not only his profession but also a way of understanding and engaging with the world.
Throughout his career, he has developed a close and respectful relationship with diverse communities across Oaxaca and other regions of Mexico. His work is rooted in documentary photography, exploring the culture, customs, and traditions of Indigenous communities, as well as themes related to human rights, territory,
portraiture, landscape, and everyday life. Through his images, he seeks not only to document but also to create memory, reflection, and dignity.
In 2006, Fernando specialized at the F/64 Canon Academy Audiovisual Training Center in Puebla, where he focused on documentary photography and studio portraiture. Over the years, he has continued his professional development through workshops with renowned photographers including Rodrigo Cruz, Karen
Miranda, Vida Yovanovich, Flor Garduño, Vittorio D’Onofri, and Dulce Pinzón, as well as training with National Geographic in Madrid, Spain.
He has collaborated with a variety of foundations and public institutions, including WWF (World Wildlife Fund), Fundación Comunitaria Oaxaca (FCO), Fondo para la Conservación, Fundación Eñe (Spain), CONAFOR, SEMARNAT, and Mexico’s Ministry of Culture, among others.
Part of his practice is dedicated to visual experimentation and the exploration of new forms of graphic representation within contemporary art. His work has been exhibited in the United States, Chile, Spain, and Mexico. Armenghol continues to develop documentary photography projects focused on cultural themes, while also creating portraits of artists and musicians in Brooklyn and New Orleans.
In 2018, he founded Atelier Tragaluz, a studio dedicated to the development of photographic projects across art, advertising, printing, editorial work, multimedia, and graphic design, which remains active today.
